A car ploughed through a crowd of Christmas shoppers in one of the busiest intersections in Melbourne, Australia on Thursday, according to the Australian Police.

Australian Health Officials said the incident caused more than 12 injuries, and they are currently being treated at different hospitals in Melbourne.

A white SUV was seen slamming into pedestrians at the Elizabeth Street Intersection, according to witnesses.

Australian police have taken two men into custody in what police are calling a "deliberate act," while medical staff are attending to the injured people.

“We could hear this noise coming from Swanston Street,’’ said a lady who was working at a doughnut shop nearby, “It didn’t seem like he was braking, nothing. He just mowed everyone down at the crossing.’’

Back in January, a similar car attack happened in Melbourne, killing six people and injuring at least thirty others. Similar incidents have also taken place in Europe and the U.S. earlier this year.
