Russian Foreign Ministry official expressed the ministry’s concerns over Trump’s Jerusalem decision, stressing on his country’s decision to consider West Jerusalem as the official capital of the Israeli State.

“We are concerned over the US administration’s decision. We announced West Jerusalem as a capital of the Israeli State. In our opinion, it is a balanced objective position. At the end, Palestinian-Israeli negotiations should lead to a solution based on the Two-State Solution, who live in peace beside each others,” the official told Sputnik News.

Earlier in April 2017, Russia became the first country to declare part of Jerusalem as the official capital of the Israeli State.

Russia said it will consider West Jerusalem to be the Israeli capital, since East Jerusalem is the future capital of the Palestinian State.

“We reaffirm our commitment to the UN-approved principles for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement, which include the status of East Jerusalem as the capital of the future Palestinian state. At the same time, we must state that in this context we view West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” the Foreign Ministry in Moscow said in a statement.
