Georgian authorities announced on Friday they have killed a suspected ISIS member accused of masterminding the attack at Istanbul's Ataturk airport in 2016.

Spokeswoman for Georgia's state security service said that a special operation carried out last week led authorities to the "mastermind" of the airport attack, which left dozens dead.

"One of the dead is certainly Ahmed Chataev," the statement said, referring to the suspect in the attack.

The twenty-hour operation was carried out last week in a residential complex on the borders of Tbilisi, capital of Georgia.

A twin bombing took place last December at Ataturk airport, 38 were killed, 30 of them are from the Turkish Police; more than 150 were injured.
