Mohammad bin Salman called Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei “the new Hitler of the Middle East”, in an interview with the New York Times.

“We learned from Europe that appeasement doesn’t work,” the Prince said. “We don’t want the new Hitler in Iran to repeat what happened in Europe in the Middle East.”

The Saudi Prince discussed the recent reforms in Saudi Arabia, including education reforms, and women finally being allowed to drive in the ultra-conservative Kingdom.

However, he refused to discuss the recent controversy regarding Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s abrupt resignation from office, which the latter had announced in a televised TV speech from Riyadh.

According to the interview, Bin Salman stressed that the bottom line was that Hariri, being a Sunni Muslim, was not going to “provide political cover for a Lebanese government that is essentially controlled by the Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah militia, which is essentially controlled by Tehran.”

He later went on to talk about the anti-corruption reforms and initiatives Saudi has taken, claiming that corruption in Saudi is costing the government 10% of its annual income.

Earlier this month, Saudi purged dozens of top officials and businessmen, including Saudi royals, in the Kingdom in an anti-corruption drive.

BBC released a report this Thursday showing the lives of the detained Saudi officials in their detention area, the Riyadh Ritz-Carlton.

According to the report, many of those detained are still unknown, claiming that there are at least 11 princes on the list.
