Doctor Ala’ Abu Hijleh became Jordan's first female orthopedic surgeon today in the 11th annual Jordanian Orthopedist Association (JOA) conference.

Abu Hijleh was honored by the head of the association, Dr. Wa’el Al ‘izazy, who went on to talk about JOA and the services orthopedists provide in Jordan.

He said that in the recent years, many orthopedists have graduated and joined the JOA, and that ten years ago, there were only 150 members in the association, with nearly 400 doctors today.

The JOA intends to train future orthopedists in new subfields in the near future, especially in order to provide treatment to athletes.
