Journalists in Jordan stopped working for an hour on Thursday, to express their condemnation against the Balfour Declaration.

The Jordanian Journalists Association demanded the UK correct the “historical mistake” of the Balfour agreement, which paved the for the creation of the state of Israel and led to the displacement of millions of Palestinians and 50 years of Israeli occupation.

Marking one hundred years today, the Balfour agreement was a letter sent from Britain’s then-foreign secretary, Arthur Balfour, to Lionel Walter Rothschild, a figurehead of the British Jewish community in 1917, guaranteeing Jews a national home.
