Seven Palestinians were killed and 12 were injured after Israel destroyed a resistance tunnel south of Gaza Strip.

Those killed and injured were members of Al-Quds Brigade and Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the respective military wings of the Islamic Jihad and Hamas movements, according to Maan.

The Palestinian Civil Defense said that rescue teams are still trying to reach members of both brigades trapped inside the tunnel.

Hamas said that it lost two gunmen who were attempting to rescue Al-Quds Brigade men in the tunnel, Reuters says.

According to Maan, the IDF announced the destruction of the tunnel, saying that it was still being built.

Meanwhile, both Fatah and Hamas condemned the Israeli attack on the tunnel, and its violations in Gaza, stressing that Israel aims to disrupt the reconciliation between the two parties.

Hamas said in a press statement, “resisting the Occupation in all of its forms is a natural response from the Palestinian nation, and the Occupation’s continuation in its escalation and committing crimes will only make us strive for unity, and resistance. The price they will pay will be higher.”

Israeli authorities announced the installment of Iron Done air defense systems in the south after targeting the resistance tunnel, accompanied by a heavy presence of scout planes circling Gaza Strip.
