Law and order will soon be delivered from the sky in Dubai.
The Dubai police force announced this week that they would soon be patrolling the city’s skies on Star Wars style hoverbikes. The futuristic electric bikes were unveiled at the 37th Gitex Technology Week at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The Hoversurf Scorpion can fly at a height of five metres and carry a police office over congested traffic in emergency situations, First Sergeant Ali Ahmad told Gulf News.
"The bike can also fly without a passenger and can go up to six kilometres," he said.
"It can fly for 25 minutes and can carry up to 300kg of weight at a speed of 70kph."
The CEO of the Russian manufacturer Hoversurf, Alexander Atamanov, posted on Facebook that the company had reached an agreement with Dubai to mass produce the bikes in the Emirate.
Dubai already has a reputation as one of the most technologically advanced cities in the world, using water jetpacks for firefighting and a robot on its police force.
