With Halloween on the horizon, the team at Ro'ya thought we would share with you this list of weird and wonderful holidays taking place throughout the year.

Official holidays usually mean that they are sanctioned by the government and everyone who observes the holiday usually gets the day off from work, like Christmas, Eid al-Fitr, the country's independence or constitution day.

But on the other hand, there are unofficial holidays that can include national and global awareness holidays such as UN days, and fun holidays that usually celebrate trivial, unimportant, and fun things like food, movies, books, and television series.

On April 19 some Americans celebrate what is called National Banana Day, they eat and share bananas, they also dress as bananas and in general they go a little bit bananas.

If you like to stay in your PJs all day and do absolutely nothing, take naps or sleep all day, then here is the perfect day for you: Festival of Sleep Day.

Each year on the third Friday in June, it is National Flip Flop Day, just dig out your favourite pair of flip-flops and take a stroll around town.

When you think about umbrellas you might think of Rihanna’s song but did you know that the oldest reference to a collapsible umbrella dates to the year 21 AD. Well, on February 10 you get to celebrate Umbrella Day, where you get to know more about the history and the science behind it and don’t forget to bring out your coolest umbrella to accessorize your outfit.

Compliment a stranger, say “Thank you” a lot, smile at people, and just do little acts of kindness every day and especially on Random Act of Kindness Day.

When it comes to food there are a lot of food related days such as; Lasagna Day, Strawberry Ice Cream Day, Popcorn Day, Soup Swap Day, Chocolate Cake Day, Cheese Pizza Day, Croissant Day, Carrot Cake Day, Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, and many more. But it’s a shame that there isn’t Mansaf Day.

If you don’t feel satisfied with these holydays and you think you could have come up with something better, don’t worry because on the 26th of March you can celebrate the Make Up Your Own Holiday Day.
