Celebrating a seemingly imminent Palestinian national reconciliation, thousands of Gaza residents went out to welcome the Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamadallah who arrived in the coastal enclave earlier today among other officials from the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority.

In a press conference held in Gaza, Hamadallah said that unity is the only way to achieve national goals.

“We were instructed by President Mahmoud Abbas to come here, to announce from Gaza that this country wouldn’t be established without a geographical unity between Gaza and the West bank,” Hamadallah carried on.

In Gaza, streets where full of celebrating people holding Palestinian flags with them, chanting with unity slogans, and playing national songs. Some sweets’ shops even offered customers sweets for free celebrating the big movement.

Most of the people in Gaza hope that this agreement will finally end the eleven-year siege Israel imposed on their territory since Hamas took over Gaza in 2007 after ousting pro-Abbas forces to the West Bank.

In the same context, an Egyptian senior delegation arrived in Gaza today through Rafah border; the visit was related to the Egyptian efforts were made reaching this agreement. For the past couple of weeks, the two rival parties held reconciliation talks in Cairo.

Noor Naim,28, a Gaza resident, said that she was very surprised with the happy reactions of the people towards the agreement. “I felt there was a real feast today in Gaza, I hope that the reconciliation would be achieved at the end lest these people should be disappointed,” Noor commented.
