The rage against Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem has not died down.

Twenty one lawyers and national figures, representing 309 individuals, submitted a legal complaint to the Attorney General in Palestine on Wednesday against Patriarch Theophilos, who sold Christian land to Israeli developers.

Nael Al Hooh, Vice President of the Palestinian Bar Association, said during a sit-in outside the Attorney General’s office that “this complaint is directed against the head of the Christian community, with our respect to all the Christian sects.”

Al Hooh stressed that Jerusalem is being robbed of its land, which is owned by the Palestinian people, adding that both Muslim and Christian Palestinians reject what is happening to their land in Jerusalem.

According to Al Hooh, 33 percent of land in Jerusalem is owned by the church, pointing out that it is his and Palestinians’ duty to stand in the way of plans to sell their land.

In July, it was revealed that Patriarch Theophilos had sold 1200 acres of church land in West Jerusalem to Israeli developers.

Al Hooh called on Jordan, Egypt and the Palestinian Bar Association to stand in the way of those who try to sell Palestinian land.

Al Hooh demanded that the Palestinian government stops recognizing Theophilos because of his “criminal acts, which are considered to be a national betrayal.”

He also demanded that the Palestinian flag is raised over the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem, because “it is an Arab and Palestinian church.”

“It is our right to take to court any person, regardless of his position, who is accused of betraying his country. It is the Palestinian judicial system’s duty to file a lawsuit against anyone who sells Palestinian land to Israel,” Al Hooh said.
