Jordanian police have arrested a man who conned 17 Jordanian citizens out of $21,000, a security source from the Public Security Directorate said on Wednesday.

The con artist had the Muslim pilgrims believe that he would arrange their visa and travel arrangements to Saudi Arabia, where they would be performing the mandatory religious duty of Hajj.

Following a thorough investigation, the scammer admitted to his crime and was sent to court for trial.

Hajj 2017 began on August 30 and will end on September 4, Saudi Arabia’s High Judicial Court confirmed.

On Wednesday, two million pilgrims from all over the world arrived at the holy city of Mecca to perform Hajj.
