Members of the Israeli Knesset entered the courtyards of Al Aqsa Mosque today amid heavy Israeli security presence.
Israeli Police had spread out in the courtyards of the Mosque since the early hours of the morning, securing the Mughrabi Gate, through which Israeli settlers were allowed entrance into the compound, according to Palestinian news agency Ma’an.
Yehudah Glick, a right-wing Knesset member belonging to the Likud party, fronted the second wave of Israeli settlers who have entered the mosque today.
Glick, a notorious figure for Palestinians, actively campaigns for "reaching complete and comprehensive freedom and civil rights for Jews on the Temple Mount.”
Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu issued a decision allowing members of the Knesset to enter Al Aqsa this past June, after barring their entrance for a year-and-a-half in order to avoid conflict with Palestinians.
The decision required members of the Knesset asking for permission to enter the Aqsa Compound 24 hours prior to the visit, in order for it to be reviewed by Israeli police.
Knesset members of Arab origin were allowed to visit the Mosque through Bab Al Asbat an hour after the visits of the Jewish MKs ends, and they were disallowed from giving speeches of a political nature during the visit.
