In a recent update from al-Jazeera, it seems that Qatari nationals might not be able to perform Hajj this year, amid a recent development in relations with Saudi Arabia.

"Riyadh usually communicates with Doha on Hajj logistics but no Saudi response means no pilgrimage for Qataris in 2017," states the report. The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in Qatar, which regulates Hajj for Qatari citizens and residents, announced that it received its Saudi counterpart on travel logistics nor security arrangements.

Qatar's official News Agency stated that religious authorities "did not find any cooperation or positive response from the Ministry of Hajj, which has led to confusion and suspension of the regulatory process for Qatar's pilgrims."

According to al-Jazeera, the lack of communication ultimately means that there will be no Hajj for Qatar's citizens or residents in 2017.

Director of international cooperation at Qatar's National Human Rights Commission, Saad Sultan al-Abdullah, expressed concern with Muslims being prevented from performing their religious duty.

"There should be no mixing between political disputes and Muslims' natural and human right to perform their religious duties," he said. "Politics and human rights must be separated."

The recent development comes after seemingly improved relations between the two countries, after King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud ordered his government to send planes transporting Qatari pilgrims as his own guests.

Qatar has recently restored diplomatic relations with Iran. Although al-Jazeera suggests Iranian and Saudi officials are coordinating Hajj for Iranian pilgrims, it is unclear if Doha and Tehran's relationship influenced Saudi's lack of cooperation on the matter.
