Several Hamas security members were injured, and two killed in a confrontation along Gaza's border with Egypt.

"A security force stopped two persons who approached the border. One of them blew himself up and was killed. The other was wounded," the Hamas-run Interior Ministry said in a statement.

According al-Jazeera, security sources said the assailant in the blast was a member of Daesh or "ISIS", stating that it would be the first time a suicide attack targeted Hamas forces in Gaza.

Hamas has recently been seeking improved relations with Egypt, especially security coordination due to the presence of Daesh and other "Jihadist Salafi" groups in the Sinai Peninsula.

Egypt has been fighting these groups for years, and has an unsteady relationship with Hamas, keeping the border crossing mostly shut and accusing the group of aiding these groups in Sinai. Hamas denies these allegations.

Israel, along Gaza's other borders, has maintained a decade-long blockade.
