His Majesty King Abdullah II discussed the on going crisis at the Al Aqsa compound with Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, on Wednesday, according to Petra news agency.

According to Petra King Abdullah and Abbas discussed over a phone call the importance of continuing coordination to restore calm and deescalate tensions in the region, while ensuring that the historical and legal status in the Holy Mosque is respected.

This comes in the wake of a deadly shoot-out at Al Aqsa mosque, in which three Palestinians and two Israeli policemen were killed. The event triggered intensified Israeli security measures at the compound, sparking mass protests among local Palestinians, who have been met with violent repression at the hands of Israeli forces.
