Have you come across any pink ambulances on the streets of Dubai? You aren’t just seeing things - Dubai has launched a new ambulance service exclusively for women.

The pink vehicles are manned by two seasoned female paramedics with the express purpose of responding to emergency calls by women.

Dubai launched this service in July as an initiative to provide more privacy for women, mainly those in labor.

Bashayir Al Reem, female paramedic, told AFP, “in our Arab and Muslim society, when a patient asks for help, they expect privacy and comfort.”

Since its launch, the service has responded to 25 calls for help, none of which were emergencies.

Dubai is no stranger to gender-exclusive public services; the city has launched a female-exclusive cab service that is still popularly used by women.
