A 30-year-old Jordanian man has been sentenced to 27 years and eight months in jail for raping a 16-year-old girl.

The Grand Criminal Court on Thursday charged the offender - who was charged with sexual assault in the past - with raping a minor.

The rapist met his victim when he asked her parents for her hand in marriage. When her family declined, he lied to the teen by telling her that her family has agreed to let them marry.

Soon after, the man took the girl to one of Jordan’s districts to “look for a marital home for them to live in.”

Having lied to the girl, the man took her to his vacant family home, where he forced her to drink alcoholic beverages until she lost consciousness.

Once the girl returned to her family home, they took her to the hospital, where a rape kit revealed that she had been sexually assaulted.
