The military police at the Onaizi Prison in Saudi Arabia have foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics into its premises.

Official spokesman for the General Directorate of Prisons, Brigadier General Ayoub Bin Naheet, said: “Members of the military police at the Onaizi Prison foiled an attempt to smuggle medicinal cannabis, rizla, 190 painkillers, one brand new Galaxy mobile phone, a phone charger and three mobile phone simcards using a small Phantom plane.”

Naheet added that police shot down the plane as soon as they spotted it in the air. All its contents were confiscated and handed over to authorities for further investigation.

This isn’t the first time outsiders have tried to sneak in items to prisoners, Naheet said.

In 2016, more than 150 prisoners were executed for breaking Saudi Arabia’s strict Islamic laws, including drug trafficking, armed robbery, rape and murder.
