Israeli occupation forces launched a campaign of arrests and raids on Wednesday morning in Qalandia refugee camp to the north of occupied Jerusalem.

The Palestinian News Agency, Safa, reported that Israeli forces moved in to Qalandiya in force, provoking "confrontations between elements of the occupation and a group of young people", with gunfire reportedly heard during the confrontations.

Occupation forces raided and searched several houses in the camp, Safa reported, adding that Israeli soldiers also arrested a number of young men and boys.

Those detained were identified as Laith Shaaban, Mohammed Nayef Abdel Rahman, Mohammed Mahmoud Mutair and Shadi Daraghmeh, Safa added.

A Roya correspondent in Palestine confirmed that an armed clash took place between youths and occupation forces in the camp.
