Saudi columnist Ramadan Bin Jureidi al Anzi was suspended from Saudi daily “Al Jazeera,” after publishing an article where he praised King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz with God-like attributes.

Al Anzi was temporarily removed from his post after King Salman personally called for his suspension.

The Saudi monarch also ordered action against the newspaper, which published the article on Friday.

“All newspapers and media should be fully aware that such matters must not be published and that all those who do not comply will be held accountable.”

In a letter to Information Minister Awad Bin Saleh Al Awad, King Salman described the article’s headline and content as “shocking,” expressing disapproval of the expressions and excessive language used to describe him, such as using the same attributes to describe him that can be found describing God or Prophet Abraham in the Muslim Holy Book.

“Such a matter has disturbed us and we cannot accept or tolerate it. We do not want it and we do not acknowledge it. We are well aware of the seriousness and danger of being lenient towards it,” King Salman said.

While the newspaper issued a full apology to King Salman, Al Anzi tweeted a series of apologetic tweets as well.

“I apologise to God, first, and to King Salman, second. This was an unintentional slip up, and I pray that I live and die worshipping the one God. May God bless our country and King Salman,” Al Anzi tweeted.
