A Saudi Arabian soldier was killed and two others wounded after an explosion struck their patrol in the eastern Saudi province of Qatif late on Sunday, according to the Saudi Ministry of Interior.

In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the ministry reported that the patrol was in Al Masoura neighborhood when it was attacked with an “explosive projectile” at 11:30pm on Sunday night, in what it describes as a “terrorist” attack.

The ministry identified the dead soldier as Maj. Tariq bin Abdullatif Al A'laqi, with the SPA adding that the two wounded soldiers were in stable condition and that an investigation is underway into the incident.

Masoura was also the scene of a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) attack in May which killed one soldier and left five others injured, the SPA reported.
